Modern Yawls

More than a Mizzen Mast

They still make yawls. Here are some examples. Scroll down to see more...

Salamina SALAMINA is a classic aft cockpit yawl of important provenance. She was custom designed by Alden Yachts to be a boat capable of crossing oceans in almost any weather, of singular beauty, great speed, and unmatched strength, with a “costbedamned” approach. Combining the best of both worlds, she has classic lines above and a modern fast underbody. With her long overhangs, mahogany deck furniture and teak trim, and belowdecks fireplace, she appears to be a wooden yawl from the 30’s or 40’s; yet, she was actually handbuilt of the highest grade aluminum alloy in 1984.She was the very last boat built by Paul E. Luke of Boothbay Harbor, Maine, whose roster of distinguished clients has included Tom Watson, founder of IBM. She is a twotime winner of the Newport-Bermuda Race in 2002 and 2004, and a winner of the Marion-Bermuda race in 2005. She has been under refit since 2007. Almost complete! Owner is Craig Shelton.
